Thesis
Gender Pay Inequality in UK Medicine
The Ph.D. thesis is comprised of three empirical chapters investigating gender pay inequality in Medicine in the United Kingdom. The aim of the research is to provide a better understanding of the gender pay gap among doctors by looking at how the gap changed through time and how the gap in wage growth evolved over the careers of a cohort of doctors. The research makes use of both the cross-sectional and longitudinal properties of the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, and aims to provide evidence for public policy to better understand the mechanisms giving rise to pay inequalities within medicine.
