Biography
After an undergraduate degree at Cambridge and a PhD at Imperial College I worked as a post-doc at Imperial College on Molecular Beam Epitaxy of III-V semiconductors. I then joined Toshiba Research Europe Limited in Cambridge to work on semiconductor quantum technology, where I became Team Leader.
I joined Cardiff University in 2017. I work with the Institute for Compound Semiconductors, the Ser Cymru Advanced Materials group, the Condensed Matter and Photonics group (in the School of Physics and Astronomy) and Materials and Magnetics group (in the School of Engineering).

Recent publications include using the non-linear response of a single quantum dot to “sort” photons one-by-one (A. J. Bennett et al, Nature Nanotechnology 11, 857–860 (2016)) and the first demonstration of a phase super-resolution sensor operating with a single photon source (A. J. My research is funded by Cardiff University, the Ser Cymru Research Grant to Cardiff University, the Royal Society (RGS\R1\191251), the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. I am a co-investigator on the UK National Hub in Quantum Computing and Simulation from 2019 until 2024 (EP/T001062/1), part of the Future Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub (EP/P006973/1) and holder of an EPSRC Fellowship until 2025.
