Dr Natalie Simon
Honorary Research Fellow, Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurociences
Overview
I'm delighted to be supporting the Traumatic Stress Research Group within the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences, as an Honorary Research Fellow. I worked previously on the RAPID Trial, a Pragmatic RAndomised controlled trial of a Trauma-Focused Guided Self Help Programme versus InDividual Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Within this role I undertook a PhD to determine the acceptability of internet-based Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for PTSD, with supervision from Professor Jonathan Bisson and Dr Catrin Lewis. I have conducted research in the field of trauma and within public involvement and engagement. I have undertaken systematic reviews including a Cochrane systematic review. I am currently working with the National Centre for Mental Health to undertake research concerned with mental health in the perinatal period.
I am practising within the NHS as a Trainee Clinical Psychologist, with the South Wales Doctoral programme in Clinical Psychology, Cardiff University.

We are currently unable to retrieve the list of publications. Visit our institutional repository.I developed my interest in research in roles supporting research at the Wellcome Trust, the Stroke Association, and Wales Council for Voluntary Action. I'm committed to the inclusion of the lived experience within research and clinical practice and helped develop a network across Wales to operationalise this, and have published in this area.
I have been fortunate to work with Professor Jonathan Bisson and colleagues at the Traumatic Stress Research Group at Cardiff University where we have developed research in the traumatic stress field, impacting clinical practice. This has included the evaluation of interventions to treat PTSD, including Spring, a Guided Self Help internet-based Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for mild to moderate PTSD.
I am particularly interested in social support as a protective factor in mental health, including trauma, and have published in the area. Within my role as a Trainee Clinical Psychologist, I am undertaking further research exploring whether perceived social support is a protective factor in perinatal mental health.
