Overview

Career Overview:
I have been a lecturer at Cardiff University since 2014, following a career practicing Physiotherapy in South Wales.  My clinical specialism was in the Musculoskeletal field of Physiotherapy where I worked for many years as an Extended Scope Practitioner. My previous role within the NHS provided a vast experience of Practice Education and Clinical Placement tutoring.
I have previously been Programme Manager for the BSc Hons Physiotherapy programme and am currently working to design a Pre-registration MSc Physiotherapy programme.  I am a  Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have completed a Post Graduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning.
I am passionate about providing an excellent student experience and my scholarly research has focused on the recruitment and admissions practices in Physiotherapy.  Currently I am Director of Undergraduate Learning and Teaching in the School of Healthcare Sciences.
Teaching Overview:
I currently teach across mutliple modules of the undergraduate physiotherapy programme, mainly focusing on Anatomy, Biomechanics, Exercise and Musculoskeletal practice.  I also contirbute to the Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy modules at postgraduate level.
I have supervised a number of projects (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) investigating the use of the Anti-gravity Treadmill in relation to rehabilitation practices.

2017: Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Leanring (PGCUTL) - Cardiff University - awarded with Distinction

2012: Soft Tissue Injection Therapy module (M-level) - Keele University

2010: MSc Physiotherapy - Cardiff Univerity - awarded with Distinction.  Dissertation title: An investigation of the agreement between three-dimensional and two-dimensional measurements of frontal plane knee angles.

2001: BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy - University of Wales College of Medicine - 1st Class  Dissertation Title: An investigation of surface Electromyography in the ankle muscles during landing with and without ankle taping.

Teaching

I am an experienced educator and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) having gained a PGcUTL qulaification in 2017. I teach and examine across physiotherapy modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

I have more than 4 years experience of undergraduate programme leadership, including programme re-design and approval.

I work closely with the Learning and Development team at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and have experience as an External Examiner for other undergraduate physiotherapy programmes in the UK.

My research interests fall under two areas.  I have conducted small scale scholarly projects investigating recruitment practices within physiotherapy, with a focus on fairness, inclusivity, and unconscoius bias.  I also conduct educational projects examining impact of educational innovation in practice.

The other area of interest lies within rehabilitation and biomechanics.  I have conducted research investigating landing mechanics relating to netball, and I currently supervise a range of UG and PG research projects investigating the use of the Anti-gravity (Lower Body Positive Pressure) treadmill during walking and running.
