Research Interests
I am qualified nurse, midwife and teacher of adult education with a keen interest in newborn screening, genetics and education.
Career Overview
A qualified nurse and midwife for 20 years plus with national and international experience. I have worked as a lecturer in Cardiff University since 1998 with a pre and post registration education remit. I have developed into the field of research over the last 5- 6 years following a Health Professions Wales Sponsorship award and a Cardiff University secondment. Have worked closely with their Genetics foci team and the Newborn Screening Wales Department.
Recent work includes:
Mothers experience of newborn screening
Postnatal Screening: Mothers' reasons for their decision about an optional newborn screening test explored
Advancements in newborn bloodspot screening: Tandem Mass Spectrometry & MCADD
She has recently been awarded an rcbcwales PhD Fellowship to look at Cord Blood Collection for Stem Cell Storage with a Commercial company and the Implications on Midwifery Practice.
Teaching Profile Janet has a broad range of teaching experience in both pre and post registration nursing and midwifery education from diploma to Masters level.Biography

- Reviewer for British Journal Midwifery 2004 to present.
- Invited to be an advisor to UK Newborn Screening Programme Centre - Newborn blood spot screening for Consent and communication in 2004.
- Invited to be a member of the Expert Advisory Group for the Wales Newborn Screening Bloodspot Project in 2006
- Lead link for the School of Healthcare Sciences with the newly formed Wales NHS National Genetics Education and Development Centre.
