I was part of the team employed to develop the internal Preliminary Year at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, and therefore the majority of my teaching responsibilities are concentrated around this year, where I am module leader for two modules.
Away from the Preliminary Year, I am module leader for a first year module and supervise third year research projects. I have previously contributed to other Preliminary and first year modules, and delivered electrophysiology lectures in the third year.
I have also recorded a lecture on NHS research ethics, and supervised an MSc project for WOPEC.
I have been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since December 2016.
Although I am not currently involved in any research projects, I have research experience in clinical investigation of eye diseases which typically affect the posterior segment of the eye, particularly diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
I have been involved in projects which investigate visual function in diabetic retinopathy and ocular hypertension using objective and subjective techniques, with an emphasis on visual electrophysiology. These investigations employed techniques such as the photopic negative response and S-cone electroretinogram (ERG), as well as more standard photopic and scotopic ERG and visual evoked potential techniques. Before commencing my current teaching role, I contributed to a project exploring structural changes in the optic nerve head in glaucoma using long wavelength (1050nm) laboratory optical coherence tomography.
