Overview

A bilingual journalist, with more than 25 years’ experience in digital news and programme making, I teach on the MA post graduate Broadcast Journalism course. 

Previously, I've worked for international broadcasters and with the BBC for 22 years as a reporter, presenter and investigative journalist. As a bi-media Correspondent, I've specialised in international affairs, Europe, Environment, Sports. As a foreign correspondent I was deployed to New York and 9/11, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, conflict in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, the 2004 tsunami in southeast Asia, Japan’s tsunami in 2011 and the 2016 U.S. election.  

In 2016 I joined a start-up news channel with hundreds of other international journalists. Broadcasting from Istanbul, London and Washington D.C. I was an International News Correspondent and later Middle East Correspondent with TRT World. I also presented rolling news, weekly programmes and an Off The Grid investigation into abuses of migrants in Croatia and Bosnia. ‘Beaten by the Border’ was a finalist at the New York Film festival and the DIG Awards in Italy in 2020. 

I've been based in Istanbul, Brussels, London and Washington D.C. Since returning to Britain, I've freelanced for CGTN, Euronews, TRT and the BBC. I write for Barn and contribute regularly for Radio Cymru on international affairs, journalism, environment stories and as a newspaper reviewer.
