Overview
I am a Lecturer and academic member of the Magnetics and Materials research groups.
My research interests are centred on correlating microstructures to the magnetic properties of soft magnetic materials. This includes but not limited to the following areas:
- Non-destructive evaluation of microstructures of steels using electromagnetic and magnetic techniques;
- Microstructural magnetic modelling
- Microstructure and magnetic property characterisation
- Finite Element modelling of electromagnetic sensor systems
I am editing a special issue on Microstructural Magnetic Modelling and Measurement for Magnetochemistry. Please follow the link below or contact me for enquiries and submission.

Biography
I joined Cardiff University as a Lecturer in November 2020. Before that, I worked as a Research Fellow on a number of EPSRC and EU funded projects in the area of non-destructive evaluation of steel microstructure at University of Birmingham and then University of Warwick. I obtained my PhD in electrocrystallisation and electronic materials in 2010 at Loughborough University, my MEng in Materials Processing Engineering in 2003 and BEng in Welding in 2001, both at Harbin Institute of Technology in China.

Microstructural Magnetic Modelling
Microstructure determines the magnetic properties of magnetic alloys as it determines the mechanical properties of structural alloys. There are well-established theories and widely accepted empirical laws correlating microstructure with mechanical properties and even commercial simulation tools that can predict mechanical properties from microstructures. However, there are significant gaps of knowledge and modelling capabilities for the magnetic property counterpart. The current understanding to microstructure-magnetic property relationships in magnetic alloys is largely empirical, limited to some individual microstructural parameter and magnetic property, or only applicable to a limited range of values. There are few models or simulation tools reported for predicting magnetic properties from microstructures and fewer stillscarcer for the inversion, that is, predicting microstructures from magnetic properties. Our aim is to fill the gap by developing a microstructural magnetic modelling system for microstructre engineering and analytics of magnetic materials.
