I am a Senior Lecturer of "Smart Infrastructure Engineering" in the School of Engineering and a member of the Urban Intelligence Research Group.

‌

I specialise in Artificial Intelligence and Edge Computing(Edge-AI) with applications to the built and natural environment. I focus on developing intelligent computer systems to devise and enact "smartness" in buildings, infrastructures and cities.

I study the realisation of Digital Twins to advance the digitalisation of industries with the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Internet-of-Thinks and Blockchain. ‌I also investigate the application of Quantum Computing for energy optimisation and circularity in construction.

‌

I have advanced experience on designing, implementing and deploying energy optimisation systems using machine learning and genetic algorithms for real pilot developments such as sports facilities, buildings, ports and stadiums. I also explore the federation of energy networks to support energy exchanges and monetisation of energy in sharing communities and economies. ‌‍In this field, I have recently published a book "BIM for Energy Efficiency" providing solutions for the decarbonisation of the built environment through informed decision-making using digital simulation and analysis. ‌

In these fields of study, I lead several strategic EU and UK research projects. I have authored 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. I also supervise postgraduate and doctoral research projects.

Recently, I have published a patent in the field of autonomous and semantic optimization approach for real-time performance management in a built environment. ‌

I am also the ICT lead of the Digital Twin Computational Urban Sustainability Platform (CUSP), www.cuspplatform.com.

I completed my PhD in Cybernetics and Statistics in 2012. As part of my PhD research, I have developed a distributed collaborative system for the construction industry to facilitate stakeholders access to sustainability knowledge and resources. After the completion of the PhD, I have worked as a research associate and research fellow on several instrumental research projects in the field of artificial intelligence for the natural and built environment including smart buildings and infrastructures, building information modelling, energy optimization, digital twinning.
