Overview
Daniel is a Senior Lecturer in Economic Geography. His research interests are in regional economic development, specifically focusing on the intersection of entrepreneurship, innovation, and networks.
Biography
Previous to this position I worked as a Lecturer in International Business at Sheffield Business School (2015-2018). I completed my ESRC-sponsored PhD (2017) at the School of Geography and Planning (Cardiff) on “The Determinants of University Spinout Formation and Survival: The UK Context of Network, Investment, and Management Team Effects”.

Visit our institutional repository.My research interests are in regional economic development, specifically focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and networks. As such I study aspects of high technology entrepreneurship (e.g. academic spinoffs), small business sustainability, knowledge spillovers, and spatial configurations of networks of economic actors (e.g. entrepreneurial ecosystems). By exploring these areas I try to understand the uneven nature of economic development and what various economic actors do to overcome these spatial problems.
Supervision
I am interested in supervising PhD students in the following areas:
- entrepreneurship (from a spatial angle; especially academic entrepreneurship/spinoffs)
- entrepreneurial ecosystems (studying their networks and/or spatial organisation and performance)
- innovation (e.g. innovation activity of SMEs)
- industrial organisation/economics (e.g. firm relocation)
- and broader regional economic development topics (e.g. clusters)
Methods: quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods.
