Overview
I began my academic career at the University of Glasgow, where I graduated with a 2:1 BSc (Hons) in Marine & Freshwater biology in 2016, where my interests were centred on marine mammals and disease ecology. I pursued my interest in aquatic disease further when I undertook the Aquatic Pathobiology master’s degree at the University of Stirling. During this time, I conducted a project with Professor Alexandra Adams and Dr Rowena Hoare in collaboration with Dawnfresh Farming Scotland and AquaGen. The focus of the project was looking into disease resistance in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and the potential knock-on effects.
I am now in the second year of my PhD at Cardiff University under Professor Jo Cable and Dr Amy Ellison (Bangor Universtiy), looking into aquatic oomycetes and potential prevention methods, whilst working with the Environment Agency as a CASE partner. My PhD is part of the BBSRC GW4+ SWBio DTP, contributing to the field of aquaculture and food security.
Research
Research interests
My work focuses around factors influencing parasitic infections in freshwater fish and systems. This includes the scope of diagnosis for these sytems, as well as pertinent and upcoming stressors which may impact host-parasite dynamics.
