You can pay your tuition fees in a number of ways. It is important that you pay either your first instalment or your full fee at enrolment otherwise we cannot register you as a student.
Cost of tuition
The cost of your tuition fees will depend on the course you are studying. Your offer email from us should include the tuition cost. For more information on tuition fees, please see the undergraduate and postgraduate study sections.
Paying before you arrive
You'll need to pay your tuition fees before you arrive in Cardiff. You will need to either pay at least the first instalment of your tuition fees or provide evidence of sponsorship for each year of your course in order to complete online enrolment.
Any fees paid in advance can be deducted from the money you need to show for your student visa. We do advise that it's best to get your visa and then pay fees to avoid complications.
Ways to pay
Some of these methods may incur bank charges which vary depending on your country, but are usually between £5 and £20. Please ensure you allow extra money for any bank charges when paying your fees.
Paying in instalments
We prefer payment of tuition fees in full before you arrive in Cardiff. However, if you're a self-financing student (i.e. you or your family are funding your studies) then you may pay your tuition fees in equal instalments each year.
- First instalment is usually due in September (when you enrol online)
- Second instalment is usually due in January
- Third instalment is usually due in April
If you are in receipt of a Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship, the award will be deducted from your tuition fees before the three fee instalments are calculated.
If you're not starting in September, you'll be sent more information about your payment schedule. Your first instalment, however, is always due by the time you enrol. Payment dates will be confirmed by the Cardiff University Finance Office.
Obtaining a receipt
If you pay all or some of your tuition fees to Cardiff University Finance Office before we send you the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) email, then you won't need a receipt.
If you still need or would like to have a tuition fee receipt you can obtain one at SIMS online.
If you're unable to pay
If you can't pay the first instalment of your tuition fees before or at enrolment, you will be fully enrolled but with outstanding financial issues which need to be resolved within 28 days of the start of your course.
If payment is not made within 28 days of the start of your course, your enrolment with us will be cancelled, you will be in breach of your student visa and will be required by UK law to return to your home country.
Fraudulent information
If you are suspected of providing fraudulent documentation or display suspicious behaviour when paying your tuition fees, the University may investigate this further in line with money laundering policy. If incorrect information has been submitted in error, please contact us as soon as possible to report this.
