Ann Griffiths website

In 2003, Cardiff University launched a bilingual website devoted to the study of the life and work of Ann Griffiths (1776-1805), a major figure in Welsh literature and a Christian poet of European stature.

A review of the work of Mentrau Iaith, language action plans and the programme to promote Welsh in Aman Tawe

The aim of this research is to prepare a report for the Government of Wales on the work of the Mentrau iaith, the Language Action Plans and the Programme to Promote Welsh in Aman Tawe. It is anticipated that the recommendations will impact on the Welsh Government’s reformulation of Community Language Policy and Planning in the coming years.

Dafydd ap Gwilym project

The aim of this exciting project, funded by the AHRC and led by Professor Dafydd Johnston of Swansea University, was to produce an electronic edition of the works of Dafydd ap Gwilym, the greatest Welsh poet of the Middle Ages.

The learning of Welsh as a second language

The aim of this research project is to consider how improvements could be made to way in which the Welsh language is transferred to adults.

The Office of Language Commissioner in Wales, Ireland and Canada

This major research project is funded by the ESRC. It comprises a comparative investigation of the function of language commissioner with regard to the statutory and non-statutory instruments and powers exercised by this office in its various forms in the contrasting jurisdictions of Wales in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and Canada.

Welsh ballads website

The heyday of broadside ballad printing in Wales was the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The eighteenth-century broadsides were in the main eight-page pamphlets, whereas the nineteenth-century broadsides were usually four-page leaflets.

Welsh prose 1300 - 1425

Medieval Welsh prose survives in some eighty manuscripts produced between 1250 and 1450. The corpus contains law texts, historical, religious, medical and grammatical works, narrative tales translated from Latin and French and, of course, the tales of the Mabinogion.

Guto'r Glyn Project

Guto’r Glyn was the most important poet in the 15th century and Dr Dylan Foster Evans is one of a team of scholars who has created a new edition and study of his poetry.
