The STEMM bursaries for Welsh master's students have yet to be confirmed for the 2023/24 academic year. We will update this page when more information becomes available.

The Welsh Government's bursary for STEMM students aims to increase the number of Welsh graduates who remain in or return to Wales to undertake a master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics or medicine, also known as 'STEMM' subjects.

Each bursary is worth £2,000 and may be available to Welsh students studying a full taught master's degree programme at Cardiff University.

Eligibility

As stipulated by the Welsh Government, candidates can only be considered for a bursary if they are eligible for a loan as outlined on the Student Finance Wales website (excluding age restriction).

How to apply

There is no formal application process for a STEMM bursary. Bursaries will automatically be awarded 'first-come, first-served' based on when you accept your offer to study an eligible programme at Cardiff University. We may contact you to ask that you provide some evidence to confirm your eligibility.

To secure a bursary, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Apply for an eligible programme starting at Cardiff University in starting in 2022/23.
  2. Formally accept your offer of study.
  3. If you have been awarded a STEMM bursary you will be notified by the end of September 2022.

Bursaries will be paid in semester two and awarded as a tuition fee discount.
