Exchange students may choose optional modules if your home School permits the study of modules from another School.
Module selection for all programmes of study, including free-standing modules, is subject to approval by your Head of School or their nominee.
European exchange/Erasmus students
As a European Exchange/Erasmus student, you will have a 'home' School. This is the academic School that initiated the exchange. This School, in limited circumstances, may permit you to study modules offered by other Schools, and you should contact the School directly to arrange module selections.
How to select your modules
All module choices must be agreed upon with your home School, which will provide guidance on appropriate modules. You will need to:
- browse the exchange students module catalogue to choose the optional modules you would like to study
- attend an enrolment event to discuss your choice of modules
- agree your module choice with your home School
- request the modules from the other School
- select all the modules for the academic session via the online module selection task in SIMS online.
International Exchange and Study Abroad students
As an International Exchange and Study Abroad student, the Global Opportunities team will contact you directly to discuss your home School and module selection information.
How to select your modules
- a list of pre-approved modules for online enrolment will be emailed to you by the Study Abroad team. For details of modules for the current academic year, see Study abroad in Cardiff
- submit your module choices along with your application form
- following confirmation of your modules by the Global Opportunities team, select all the modules for the academic session via the online module selection task in SIMS online
- in the event of timetable clashes, attend an enrolment event to discuss your choice of modules
- request approval of modules from the relevant academic School.
Choosing your modules
Any modules you choose must fit into your overall teaching timetable. You will only be able to establish this at enrolment. It is therefore advisable to select a number of modules as reserves in case you are not able to register your first choice.
If you need any advice or guidance about completing this task, you should go to your home School or the Global Opportunities team.
Changing your module choice
Once you have registered on a module, it may be possible for you to change your mind but only within the first two weeks of the Autumn semester (for those modules starting in the Autumn) and within the first two weeks of the Spring semester (for those modules starting in the Spring). Your home School or the Global Opportunities team will be able to advise you on the procedure to follow should you wish to amend your choice of modules.
Changes or withdrawal of modules
The modules advertised or referred to in the European Exchange/Erasmus module catalogue or International Exchange/Study Abroad catalogue module catalogue are liable to be changed or withdrawn both before and after selection.
Cardiff University accepts no responsibility for any such change or withdrawals of modules and students select modules at their own risk.
Reasons that may cause the change or withdrawal of modules include the loss of any key member of staff or insufficient take-up of modules by students.
