Our overarching aim is to address the net zero challenges we face.

The need to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gases and achieve net zero carbon is arguably the greatest and most urgent challenge faced since the industrial revolution.

Part of the route to net zero is mapped, nuclear power stations being designed and built today will still be producing electricity for the grid in 2050, but much of the path is unknown.

Our institute provides the innovation and technology we don’t yet have, and engages with society, industry and government about how best to accomplish this.

We apply an interdisciplinary approach across areas including physical sciences, engineering, built environment, social sciences, arts and humanities, biosciences and geosciences and planning.
