The annual MRC Festival of Medical Research was launched by the Medical Research Council in June 2016.
The Festival aims to showcase medical research and how it can benefit society, while building trust and improving understanding among the public.
Past events
During the MRC Festival in 2016, we hosted a number of events, including:
- a screening of Inside Out followed by brain games for the children of Fairwater Primary School
- an MRC SciSCREEN special of The Machinist, followed by talks from researchers including Gemma Williams (psychosis) and Katie Lewis (sleep and mental health).
We also took part in a genetics-themed #PNDHour on Twitter to raise awareness of research in perinatal mental health.
2017
In 2017 we hosted Psychosis: A journey of hope and discovery, an evening with prominent mental health campaigners, Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn, where we explored the latest research in psychiatric genetics and the battle against stigma.

2018
Our biggest celebration to date, 2018 saw us take over the DEPOT with a science-themed funfair.
We adapted some traditional favourites to reflect our areas of research, including hook-a-duck, play your cards right, mini-golf and giant jenga. There was also free pizza, talks from our researchers in the Speakeasy and a magician roaming about.
